A local media outlet is spinning the facts years after a women entered a legally operating abortion clinic and then died from the complications that arose during the procedure.

Laura Hope Smith was 13 weeks pregnant when she sought an abortion at a clinic in Cape Cod, on September 13th, 2007.

Laura was pronounced dead later that day as a result of her legal abortion at the Women’s Health Center, in Hyannis, MA. where abortionist Rapin Osathanondh did the botched procedure.

During the abortion, Laura’s heart, pulse and blood pressure were not monitored, and there was no oxygen source in the room.

Abortionist Osathanondh and an office worker who had no training in resuscitation measures were the only ones with Laura after the abortion.

Osathanondh called Smith’s name to wake her, and when he received no response, he failed to timely initiate a call to 911, according to Laura’s mom, Eileen.

Smith was pronounced dead by the time she arrived at Cape Cod Hospital.

You can listen to the 911 call by the abortion clinic to emergency personnel from a previous episode of Life Talk TV here.

It was later determined that Osathanondh did not have any means of monitoring Smith’s heart, and did not have oxygen or a functioning blood pressure cuff in the room during Smith’s abortion.

A report issued by the Board of Registration in Medicine said the abortion doctor, “engaged in conduct that calls into question his competence to practice medicine.

As a result of Laura’s death, prosecutors charged Osathanondh with manslaughter.

In 2007, the 67-year-old abortion doctor was sentenced to six months in prison.

In a civil suit filed by Smith’s mother, Eileen Smith, Osathanondh agreed to pay the family a substantial sum of money as a punitive measure.

DECEPTION AND MANIPULATION

Last month, the Cape Code Today news outlet ran a story about Laura’s death.

Laura Hope Smith Cape Cod spin abortion death

It began:

A lawyer for the family of a woman who allegedly died during an abortion procedure at an unlicensed facility plans to testify before lawmakers…

Mark Crutcher, president of Life Dynamics was outraged, telling his viewers on Life Talk TV, “this was not an unlicensed facility. This was an open abortion clinic she went to.”

Crutcher details how the media and those who want to preserve abortion as “safe” will spin these stories.

He points to a chapter in a book he wrote years ago called Lime 5, where he details how the Center for Disease Control, which reports abortion statistics, doesn’t “oversee abortion, it justifies it.”

When I wrote Lime 5, we did research on how many women had died from abortion,” he said.

“We found in a two year period, where the CDC said only two women died in this two year period, and we already had more documentation than that.

Crutcher said that with his small staff and budget, Life Dynamics was able to document 16 women who died from their abortions when the CDC had only reported the two.

At Life Dynamics we knew abortion complications were grotesquely underreported but just attributed it to garden variety bureaucratic incompetence,” Crutcher wrote in his chapter Cooking the Books.

“As our research continued, however, we were getting suspicious that the flawed abortion data being released by the CDC was not the product of ineptitude, but of dishonestly and manipulation,” he said.

Crutcher also points out that several of the people who have run the Center for Disease Control’s Abortion Surveillance report are active abortionists.

GrimesandNafReport1990-99

He writes in Lime 5:

Dr. Willard Cates and Dr. David Grimes have both held various positions at the CDC and both have several terms as head of the Abortion Surveillance Branch. Each is also a practicing abortionist. In February 1976, they were presenters at an abortion conference sponsored by the abortion referral and Counseling Service of Colorado, Catholics for a Free Choice, Colorado National Organization for Women, the National Abortion Rights Action League, Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood, and Zero Population Growth. In 1990, Grimes chaired a symposium held by the National Abortion Federation and ACOG, and in 1991, the National Abortion Federation listed him as a member.”

Crutcher tells his Life Talk viewers that his research has shown how the CDC manipulates the abortion data and how the media helps by spinning the facts. And, in certain cases when they can successfully label an abortion clinic as an “unlicensed facility” they are then able to classify the abortion death, not as a death from legal abortion which it was, but as an illegal abortion death, a complete fabrication.

Case in point, is the abortion clinic where Laura died from a legal abortion.

“The media plays into this. They are spinning this thing as if this was an unlicensed facility,” Crutcher said.

Crutcher gave examples of how this is done. He told his viewers that his team found cases where the woman clearly died following complications from an abortion but the medical examiner classified the death as a death from pregnancy complications.

Among the cases Crutcher found while writing Lime 5, was that of a woman in Florida who was picked up by the ambulance at an abortion clinic and the run sheet clearly stated that she was dead on arrival (DOA) but her death was never listed by the CDC as an abortion death.

What he discovered later is that the CDC had classified her death as a death from an illegal abortion.

This was an abortion clinic that was advertised in the newspaper, had signs out front, had an 800 number and was a fully operating business,” Crutcher said.

He continued, “What we discovered was, that they found out, that the abortionist who killed her had allowed his medical license to lapse. Which you might, for example, let your driver’s license lapse, so you would go down and pay your $15.00 and get it renewed. But, because he had done that the CDC labled this as a death from an illegal abortion.”

Which is exactly what this media outlet is trying to do in Laura’s case, spinning her death from legal abortion as if she died from an illegal abortion.

Well, what if there’s an operating abortion clinic out here, and we see this all the time, where pro-lifers discover that the abortion clinic doesn’t have a license. Does the state come in and close them down? No, they don’t. So, they are trying to have their cake and eat it too,” Crutcher noted.

Is abortion safer than childbirth

After the abortion data is manipulated, the abortion lobby can then tout that abortion is “safer than childbirth.”

“I wrote about that in Lime 5,” Crutcher said.

Because this then counts as a two-fer for the abortion industry. Because it doesn’t count against abortion but the death certificate lists it as a complication due to pregnancy. And, so they say – see – abortion is safer than pregnancy. Well, yeah! If you count all your abortion deaths as pregnancy deaths than yes- it’s going to be safer..”

Crutcher maintains that abortion mortality is grotesquely under-reported and he explains more reasons why this is the case at his website SafeandLegal.com where he lists the names of women killed from legal abortion.

How sad… Very much missed and loved by her family who have to suffer because of the carelessness of someone that was supposed to know what they were doing. She was a beautiful healthy young lady… Perhaps other young women can look at this and realize how very dangerous this can be… Yeah… Abortion… Safe, legal and rare…
