Each month we begin Life Talk with a round up of the top news items:
Abortion clinics across the nation are continuing to close in record numbers. In Illinois, pro-life activists say that a killing center in Chicago has closed after they discovered a “for rent” sign on the door of the All Women’s Health Clinic. The clinic was owned and operated by Mandy Gittler, the doctor suspected of performing the fatal abortion on 24 year-old Tonya Reaves at Planned Parenthood.
In South Dakota, a Planned Parenthood facility has announced that they will be closing after they determined that other clinics in the area were better suited to meet the needs of the community. With the closing of the Rapid City center the only remaining Planned Parenthood in the state will be in Sioux Falls where they perform abortions.
Planned Parenthood of Hawaii has announced that it will be closing its Kailua-Kona center after the lease expired and they made the decision to not renew. A spokesperson for the center claims the closing is temporary until they can find a new location. The center had operated on the Island for twenty years.
In Michigan, Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan has announced the closing of their Ionia center. The Ionia clinic did not provide abortions but did do abortion referrals. Planned Parenthood cited a dramatic decrease in clients as a reason for the closing. In addition they blamed the closing on decreased funding while at the same time mentioning a fundraising campaign which raised more than $4 million.
In Ohio, the only Planned Parenthood in Clermont County has shut its doors. The CEO of Southwest Ohio Planned Parenthood, Jerry Lawson, said the clinic’s closing was a simple business decision based on a marketing study which, “indicated we just don’t have the density of our demographic focus out there.” Pro-lifers attributed the closing to prayer and the presence of a pro-life witness regularly outside the killing center.
Also in Ohio, the Department of Health has agreed not to take action against Cincinnati’s last remaining abortion clinic, until the courts rule on a federal lawsuit filed by the clinic. Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio, which operates an the Elizabeth Campbell Surgical Center filed a federal civil rights lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a state rule that bans Ohio’s abortion clinics from entering into partnerships with public hospitals. Pro-lifers are calling for the federal judge assigned to handle the challenge to recuse himself after discovering that he once served on the abortion giant’s board. U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Black who was appointed to the bench by Barack Obama, served as a director of the Planned Parenthood Association of Cincinnati for three years and one year as board president. Ohio has dropped from 13 abortion providers in the state to 8 in the past year due to pro-life legislation.
In North Dakota, the sole abortion provider in the state has stopped providing medication abortions. The move followed a ruling by the state’s high court that bared Fargo’s Red River Women’s Clinic from using mifepristone and misoprostol to induce an abortion. State law prohibits the use of Misoprostol in abortions which is not labeled as an abortion drug unlike its counterpart known as RU 486.
In an update to a previous Life Talk News story, a pro-life law center has filed a lawsuit which seeks compensatory and punitive damages against a California University and one of their professors. Life Legal Defense Foundation said they filed the civil suit against the University of California and professor Mireille Miller-Young on behalf of pro-life student Thrin Short who was assaulted by Miller-Young. In addition, they are also representing ten other pro-life students who were peacefully engaged in a free speech demonstration on the campus minutes before the assault. Video evidence of the crime showed Miller-Young verbally attacking and then forcibly taking a sign from the students which then left scratches on Short’s arm. Despite Miller-Young being criminally convicted of stealing and destroying the students’ property as well as assaulting Short the university did not publicly censure or reprimand her for her actions.
Also in California, Churches in the state say that they have begun receiving notices from insurance companies that they must now fund abortion coverage. The change was initiated by the ACLU after they claimed that a 40-year-old state law which required that health plans cover basic services should also be interrupted to cover child killing. California’s Department of Managed Health Care which had previously permitted exclusions for religious institutions has ordered all insurance plans in the state to immediately begin covering elective surgical abortions. Ironically, although California like the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services exempts churches from its contraceptive mandate, there is no exception to this bureaucratic abortion mandate.
Abortion activists are bragging that they raised nearly $30,000 in a campaign that mirrored the ice bucket challenge. The pro-choice Taco or Beer Challenge began in August when abortion advocate Andrea Grimes instructed her followers to film themselves eating a taco or drinking a beer and then donate to an abortion fund. Grimes said that she wanted to eliminate – QUOTE- abortion stigma- UNQUOTE and that the Taco or Beer Challenge would encourage people to give abortion stigma a big taco-covered middle finger. The child killing proponent then linked to a picture of an abortion supporter posing happily with a taco as an infant sat unsmiling in her lap.
In the ongoing trend of pro-choice violence a martial arts fighter has been accused of stabbing his pregnant girlfriend in the abdomen multiple times after she refused to abort their unborn child. UK resident, Nicholas Leaning allegedly ambushed and stabbed his girlfriend, Lauren Oliver, five times to kill her unborn child. The couple had previously broken up and Leaning had moved on with someone else when he learned that she was pregnant with his child. Oliver says Leaning then demanded that she abort the child and when she refused he assaulted her. The child survived the attack and was born at 34 weeks.
In an update to a previous Life Talk News story, a New York law which limited the free speech rights of pro-life pregnancy centers has been dealt a final blow in court. The US Supreme Court declined not to weigh in on the case leaving stand a favorable decision by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. The lower court affirmed that the city cannot force pregnancy centers to communicate city-crafted pro-abortion messages that encourage women to go elsewhere. The case was previously before a district court which had prohibited the city from enforcing the totality of its anti-speech ordinance designed to deter pregnant women from the pro-life centers.
In yet another Life Talk News update, a New Jersey abortion doctor has been ordered to reimburse the state’s Attorney General $420,000 for legal fees following the revocation of his medical license. In addition, abortionist Steven Brigham has been ordered by the state’s Board of Medical Examiners to pay an additional $140,000 fine after it was discovered that Brigham started late-term abortions for women in his South Jersey office and ordered them to drive to his Maryland clinic to finish the procedure. Brigham used the two-state practice to evade New Jersey law prohibiting doctors from performing abortions after the 14th week outside a hospital or other licensed medical facility. State law prohibits doctors whose licenses have been revoked from operating clinics in the state which will likely force the closure of his abortion death mill chain. In addition to New Jersey, Brigham has lost or surrendered his license in California, New York, Pennsylvania Florida, although he still operates a clinic in Pensacola, Fla.
In a similar story, it has recently been revealed that an abortion doctor in California, who became abusive with two abortion patients in another state, has surrendered his medical license. According to documents obtained by Life Talk News, when a patient who went to the offices of abortionist Abolghassem Masud Gohari requested a refund because she was instructed to take an abortion pill by a medical assistant rather than the doctor, he became extremely irate and yelled at her. A second patient said that she was not given any counseling from Gohari nor his staff when she went to his office for her abortion. According to the Medical Board report, Gohari became belligerent, abusive and yelled when the patient began to cry. So far, no prochoice groups have denounced the abortionist.
An Ohio abortion doctor with a history of sexually explicit crimes involving children has voluntarily surrendered his medical license after being indicted on federal charges of receiving and distributing child pornography. Reports say that 69 year-old Thomas William Michaelis performed abortions at Capital Care Network in Toledo just prior to the indictment. Authorities accuse Michaelis of accessing websites containing depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Addition documents reveal that in 1991 Michaelis was sentenced to 15 months in prison after he admitted to sexually explicit crimes involving his teenage daughter’s friends. In that case, Michaelis admitted to watching a minor girl partially undress, attempting to touch another minor girl on her bottom, and attempting to touch a third minor child on her breasts. In addition, the abortionist exposed himself to a forth minor child. Despite the arrest Michaelis only served 60 days in jail and was eventually relicensed. Operation Rescue has now called for the state to investigate Capital Care Network for possible abuse.
In Texas, a pro-life organization has moved their international headquarters into a former Planned Parenthood which closed last year after the state removed funding. 40 Days for Life has announced that they purchased the Bryan College Planned Parenthood where they began their initiative nearly ten years prior. The group, which peacefully prays outside abortion clinics, has credited the move to God. In a press release issued by Shawn Carney, campaign director of 40 Days for Life he stated- QUOTE- What was once a place of death and despair is now going to be a place of life and hope- UNQUOTE.

The Abortion Mecca
Don’t be fooled by the abortion lobby’s faux shock; June 24th was a day they had been long expecting – and they had a plan. For the past few years, they have been advocating and pushing legislation enshrining abortion in individual states’ constitutions in the hope of creating abortion havens in a post-Roe America. To anyone who thinks this sounds like the rantings of a tin-foil hat wearer, let’s take a look at California.
