Washington State is considering legislation to require every insurance policies to cover abortion and one business owner has a unique reason why he opposes the legislation.

My brother is a face of the almost aborted child,” said one Washington business owner to the state legislature.

H.R. 1647 requirements read:

Requires a health plan, issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2016, to: (1) Provide coverage for contraceptive drugs, devices, and other products approved by the federal food and drug administration; voluntary sterilization procedures; and applicable consultations, examinations, procedures, and medical services; and (2) If it provides coverage for maternity care or services, also provide a covered person with substantially equivalent coverage to permit the voluntary termination of a pregnancy. Requires the governor’s interagency coordinating council on health disparities to conduct a literature review on disparities in access to reproductive health care.”

Jim Mischel, CEO of Electric Mirror, a family owned company based in Everett, Washington, said that he addressed his state legislature to speak on behalf of pro-life business owners and employees to share his family’s personal story.

Jim CEO Electric Mirror

39 years ago, a 14-year-old girl was raped,” he began, “When she discovered she was pregnant she went to a clinic to have an abortion, but then changed her mind. She courageously carried her child to term and a couple adopted the baby. That baby is my brother Aaron and that couple is our parents.

“Today, Aaron is our vice-president and a great husband and a father of 4. My brother is a face of the almost aborted child. My family’s faith and our personal experience, lay the foundation for how we run our business and support our employees.

“Because we love life and supporting life, we provide comprehensive health care coverage to our employees…Unfortunately for most life affirming businesses, access to pro-life insurance policies simply doesn’t exist. Instead of creating more market options for these business owners and pro-life employees, this law attempts to remove choice when it comes to life affirming health care policies…”

  1. I love how there are more and more people willing to stand for those conceived in rape!!! Thank you to this man, his parents AND the birth mom! I am longing for the day when my peers and their mothers will be seen as people who need help FROM the rapist, not treated LIKE the rapist.

Government should not force people to be accomplices to crimes.

  2. Grateful for this man’s testimony. I wonder how many people would walk up to a man or woman that is the product of rape and say to their face that their life was not worthy of consideration.

  3. Joyce Everett says:

Jim Mischel’s statement, “The proponents of this bill claim that if someone has a right it is the obligation of others to pay for that right.” This statement could be the slogan of the Pro Life fight to preserve the right of businesses, small or large, to exist and act in accord with their own basic belief of right and wrong, of religious fidelity, and personal morality.
