A newborn baby who was found alive after being abandoned by his mother behind a trash dumpster has been reunited with the police officer who rescued him.

On Nov. 21, 1989 Santa Ana, California police officer Michael Buelna was investigating an unrelated crime when he heard a newborn baby’s cry from the dumpster.

Robin Barton

Adam, as officer Buelna called the baby at the time, still had his umbilical cord attached.

I noticed the umbilical cord and he was covered, he still had all the mucus and stuff and all the trash and gravel was sticking to him,” now retired officer Buelna told a local ABC affiliate.

“I tried to give him a tiny little bit of breath and he reacted a little bit.”

They rushed the newborn to the hospital.

The baby was eventually adopted by Elizabeth and Daniel Barton and they named him Robin Barton.

Now, 25 years old, Robin said he wanted to meet the cop who found him behind that dumpster to say thank you.

Robin’s biological mother, Serena Diaz, served several years in prison for child endangerment and attempted murder but Robin said he has forgiven her.

But the story did not end there.

After ABC7 ran the story, Barton’s biological father contacted police and ABC7 telling them that he had been searching for his son for years.

Marcos Meza said he had an affair with Diaz and found out about Robin after police questioned him.

The two have since been reunited as well.
