CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was wondering, do you guys do abortions there?
CLINIC: Yes, we do.
CALLER: Oh. Well, how much does that cost?
CLINIC: $370.
CALLER: Okay. Well, I’ll be 14 next month, and my friend told me that you guys would have to tell my parents. But —
CLINIC: No.
CALLER: — my boyfriend’s 22. Is that all right?
CLINIC: No, no. You don’t have to tell your parents.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: It doesn’t matter how old your partner is.
CALLER: Oh, really?
CLINIC: No. You don’t need to tell your parents.
CALLER: Oh, okay. All right. Well, do you guys do pregnancy tests there too?
CLINIC: Yes, we do.
CALLER: Oh, okay. It’s just the main reason why I’m worried about all this is because I haven’t had my period since like December 26th, and I’m just really scared.
CLINIC: Okay. Do you know where we’re located?
CALLER: Well, my boyfriend does. He said that he would take care of everything and take me here.
CLINIC: Okay. So let’s see. So today you can come in anytime between 1 and 4, and we can give you a pregnancy test.
CALLER: All right. Well, how long does it take for a pregnancy test?
CLINIC: Just anywhere between 15 minutes and a half an hour.
CALLER: Oh, okay.
CLINIC: I guess. Yeah.
CALLER: Alright. Well, if it turned out that I wasn’t pregnant, could I get birth control today?
CLINIC: Actually, we have walk-in teen hours on Monday. So if you wanted to come back and get pills you could come back on Monday anytime between 2 and 5.
CALLER: Okay. Would my boyfriend be able to pick up the pills? Because I can’t drive to come get them.
CLINIC: You would need to come in for an initial exam on Monday, which would be a very quick visit, probably about a half an hour as well. And then after that he could pick them up.
CALLER: Oh, okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: It’s just we were talking about all this, and we don’t want a whole bunch of people to know about us. If he was picking them up and paying for everything would he have to sign anything?
CLINIC: No, no, no. It’s completely confidential. We wouldn’t even ask him his name. He would just have to know your name and birth date.
CALLER: Oh, okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: All right.
CLINIC: Do you have any other questions?
CALLER: Well, no. I don’t think so.
CLINIC: Okay.
CALLER: But I could come in today for a pregnancy test?
CLINIC: Yep. Yep, you could.
CALLER: All right.
CLINIC: Okay.
CALLER: Okay, thanks.

CALLER: Hi. Yeah. I was calling to see if you guys do abortions there.
CLINIC: No, we don’t.
CALLER: Okay. Well, do you know of anyplace that does?
CLINIC: Yeah. They do them at our Rutland Center. They do them in Burlington and West Lebanon. And also there’s one or two private doctors that do them also.
CALLER: Okay. Well, do you have the number for the one in Burlington?
CLINIC: Okay. Just one sec. Burlington is 802-863-6326 or 6327.
CALLER: Okay. It’s just the thing is, I’m going to be 14 later on this month, and my friend said that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Could he just sign whatever it is, and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody about anything?
CLINIC: Okay. Well, probably if you’re only 14 I think you’ll have to come here for a pre-exam first and a sizing and a pregnancy test. And then you can set it up up there. And right now I don’t think we have to notify your parents. I could get you in Thursday for that. Have you been here for anything before?
CALLER: Huh?
CLINIC: Have you been here for anything else?
CALLER: No.
CLINIC: Okay. Thursday the 7th. When was your last period?
CALLER: January 3rd.
CLINIC: Okay. Can you come in at 11:10?
CALLER: Today?
CLINIC: On Thursday?
CALLER: Oh. Well, I’d have to call my boyfriend to see.
CLINIC: Okay. Well, I’ve got some openings on Thursday. So if you want to find out about that, that would be one of the openings. And I could also do it 1:30 in the afternoon.
CALLER: Okay. Well, the only thing is, like me and my boyfriend talked about all this and we don’t want anybody to know about us.
CLINIC: Right.
CALLER: Would you have to tell anybody if he was paying for everything?
CLINIC: Okay. Yeah, that’s okay.
CALLER: Really? Alright.
CLINIC: As long as you can pay for it, that’s not a problem. So why don’t you check with him and let me know, and then we can set something up for Thursday.
CALLER: Okay. One other thing. If it ended up that I wasn’t pregnant, do you guys do birth control there?
CLINIC: Yes, we do. Yeah.
CALLER: Okay. It’s just we don’t want to have to worry about all this again.
CLINIC: Right. Yeah, we can do all that. Sure.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: Alright.
CLINIC: So you can call me back when you find out. The late morning or the early afternoon would be the best time.
CALLER: Okay. So I’ll talk to him and call you back.

CLINIC: No, not here, but we do do referrals to other places who do.

CLINIC: Yeah. Although there are some other Planned Parenthoods in the area, but we do not do them at out site.
CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, do you have a number for one that does?
CLINIC: Um — yep. Is this for yourself?
CALLER: Yeah.
CLINIC: Okay. And did you take a home pregnancy test, or did you have a test somewhere else?
CALLER: Well, no. I just — I’m scared because I haven’t had my period since like December 26th, and I’m scared.
CLINIC: Okay. We would like you to come in and take a test before you make any appointment somewhere. You do need to have a confirmation of pregnancy.

CLINIC: So are you in Brattleboro area?

CLINIC: Okay. So we are open today until 5:00. Is there any way of you coming in today at some point to —
CALLER: Well, I’d have to call my boyfriend to see, but I was really wondering also if like — Well, my friend told me that since like I’ll be 14 next month. that you guys would have to tell my parents. But my boyfriend’s 22. Is he old enough to take care of it and you wouldn’t have to tell anybody?
CLINIC: No. In Vermont you don’t have to do that.

CLINIC: So we wouldn’t — it wouldn’t be an issue of telling your parents.

CLINIC: Okay? But we would like to see you here for just a confirmed test.
CALLER: Okay.
CLINIC: Okay? And we’re open tomorrow 9:00 to 12:00.
CALLER: Oh, okay. Well, it’s just me and my boyfriend were talking about all this, and we decided we don’t want a whole bunch of people to know about us.

CLINIC: Well, it’s only within our system, so it’s not that — you know. In fact, you would have a free pregnancy test. There would be no charge.

CALLER: Alright.
CLINIC: So will we see you today or tomorrow do you think?
CALLER: I have to call him to see when he can take me.
CLINIC: Okay.
CALLER: But I’m not sure.
CLINIC: Okay.
CALLER: Well, it’s just — if it ended up that I wasn’t pregnant could I get birth control there? It’s just we don’t have to — we don’t want to have to worry about this anymore.
CLINIC: Yeah. Well, it’s certainly something that would be discussed, okay? So we can certainly take it from there, and there’s a lot of options for you in that regard. Okay?
CALLER: But would anybody have to know if I was on birth control though?
CLINIC: Nope.
CALLER: Oh, okay.
CLINIC: Nobody does.
CALLER: Alright.
CLINIC: Okay?
CALLER: All right. Okay. So let me call him and I’ll call back.
CLINIC: You don’t have to call back. You can just show up.
CALLER: Oh, really?
CLINIC: Uh-huh.
CALLER: What time was it?
CLINIC: We’re open today until 5:00, so you’d need to come in like at least at 4:30.
