An Oklahoma abortion doctor placed under arrest last year for selling abortions to non-pregnant women has been bound over to face trial.

Abortionist Naresh Patel was arrested in December after undercover agents set up appointments with the abortionist where they say he administered ultrasounds and pregnancy tests and then told them they were pregnant.

According to News9, he has now waived his right to a preliminary hearing, which means he’s now bound over for trial.

In addition to the three counts of obtaining money under a false pretense, after improperly prescribing the abortion inducing drugs, the Oklahoma State Attorney General has added a charge of Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.

Court papers allege one victim, who was never pregnant, died of cervical cancer, just four months after Patel performed an abortion procedure on her. You can get more details on this case at the Life Dynamics Blog.

Police say Patel prescribed under cover agents an abortion-inducing drug, gave them directions directions on how to take it and charged them for the unnecessary treatment.

According to the AG’s office, an investigation into Patel’s dubious practices arose from a complaint that he had performed an abortion procedure on Pamela King, even though she was not pregnant. King was diagnosed and died from complications of cervical cancer later that year, and her autopsy determined that she had not been pregnant in the time frame that the abortion procedure occurred.

Despite Partel’s record, the state has allowed the abortion doctor to keep his medical license.

Now, although his status is still showing “active,” the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure, has indicated that Patel is not practicing medicine.
