A Pennsylvania pedophile who raped and impregnated a 12-year-old child was in the process of seeking an abortion when he was arrested.

Hector Rico

33-year-old Hector Rico has been charged with rape of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, sexual assault, indecent assault, corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of a child, statutory sexual assault and another sexually related felony offense.

According to reports, the victim’s mother told Shenandoah police that her 12-year-old daughter was pregnant and accused Rico of having sex with the child over several months.

That same evening, police received a call from an attorney and social worker from Massachusetts who said she was contacted by a man who identified himself as “Carlos,” and told her that he was “looking to get an abortion for his 12-year-old girlfriend.”

The woman reported that she told the man that she could not assist him and then contacted her local police department that forwarded her to Shenandoah police.

Police say that when Rico tried to have sex with the girl she told him that she had not started her period, prompting Rico to make her take a pregnancy test. He then told the victim to say she got pregnant during a party.

The child also reported that Rico looked at a telephone book and made several calls, identifying himself as “Carlos” and telling those he spoke with that he needed an abortion for his girlfriend.

Life Dynamics has documented how pedophiles use abortion to cover their crimes in a report published online. (here)

Rico was using the same methods as many other pedophiles who impregnate their victim and tell them to lie about who impregnated them. This is why enforcing mandatory reporting laws is so important.

Because the pregnancy of an underage girl is evidence that she is the victim of sexual abuse, any healthcare worker or mandated reporter who has contact with a pregnant underage girl or knowledge of abuse has an obligation to initiate a report to the state.

In this situation, Rico’s crime was reported to police, but, as Life Dynamics has documented, this is not always the case.
