To Tree Or Not To Tree…
Imagine, a tree having the same rights as you. Now imagine a river having more rights than some human beings. Does that sound outrageous? Well, that’s exactly what is happening.
Imagine, a tree having the same rights as you.
Now imagine a river having more rights than some human beings. Does that sound outrageous? Well, that’s exactly what is happening.
Recently, France declared that trees should have rights, rights that are equal to a human being. In the “Declaration of Tree Rights”, which was adopted by the French National Assembly, it stated, “a tree is a living organism whose average lifespan is far longer than that of a human being. It should be respected throughout its life and have the right to develop…from its birth to its natural death.”
While the actions of the French National Assembly might seem shocking, this type of thing has happened before and will continue to happen. As discussed on the April 30th edition of Life Talk, parts of nature are starting to get more rights than some human beings are even granted. For instance, in 2017 New Zealand passed legislation recognizing the Whanganui River as holding rights and responsibilities equivalent to that of a person. Then, in February of 2019, voters in Toledo, Ohio, approved a ballot to give Lake Erie rights that are normally associated with a person.
As the issue of global warming grows even hotter, more environmental groups are springing up. Campaigns like “Extinction Rebellion” are trying to give rights to nature, rights that are normally associated with human beings. While many would agree that we should be good stewards of the earth, these campaigns, groups and legislators are putting nature above humans.
Today, 3,000 babies will be killed by abortion.
What are environmental groups and activists doing about it? Nothing.
In fact, most of them are on the pro-abortion side. They care more about giving rights to trees, lakes, and rivers rather than defending the God-given right-to-life of the unborn.
To hear more about this topic and other issues, be sure to check out the April 30th Life Talk.
